The Nashville based duo, Bedhed (Jay Studdard) and Blondy (Fran Jackson), first came onto the Boomerocity radar last summer when the review of their CD, Down South, posted on its hallowed pages. I immediately fell in love with them. So, when Jay dropped me a note giving me a heads-up that their new three track EP, Live, was in the mail to me, I couldn’t hardly wait for its arrival.

And I wasn’t disappointed. It was well worth the wait!

Comprised of three songs recorded live in their own digs, the listener immediately gets the feeling that they are, a) sitting comfortably while this great music is being recorded and, b) that you’re getting an inside look at something incredibly beautiful and thought-provoking being recorded. Both would be true.

The first cut is a doozy entitled Hillbilly Wannabe. It’s chock full of full-tilt, country rockin’ that will have you slappin’ the repeat button over and over until you break it. Yeah, it’s that good!

The tune is followed by Buffalo Creek which, by the sounds of it, could give Little Big Town a run for their stylistic money. Dripping with blues straight from the crossroads, when the song is over, you better check to make sure that the devil hasn’t stolen your soul.

To make sure that it doesn’t happen, the EP closes with the thought-provoking Savior. Sung with a broken and contrite heart, one can almost envision a video about the prodigal son written about in the Bible with this tune serving as its soundtrack. I would have to say that this song is the best ever written by Fran and Jay and should garner the attention of mainstream radio.

Listening to Bedhed and Blondy Live will turn you into an instant, lifelong fan of theirs. Download the CD today and see if it ain’t the truth.
