" We come from the same place . . . I feel I'm part of the cosmic race . . ."
From Connected by Gary Wright

Let’s see. In this day and age, it can mean being plugged in to the internet.  Makes sense.

Oh, and there’s knowing someone that can make things happen for you like get great tickets, a good deal on something you need, or that very important job interview.

Then there’s what I call the “Sgt. Bilko” kind of connected where you know someone who can help you get things done.

One of my favorite definitions is where two people “connect” at a heart or soulish level.  My lovely first (and only) wife and I are that way.  We’re total opposites but also totally connected.

All of the definitions above work and are one hundred percent accurate.  However, I recently heard another definition that made me think.  During my recent interview with Gary Wright (here) –which, by the way, was through someone I was connected with (see how that works?- he mentioned how we’re all connected to one another on a spiritual level.

Think about that for just a moment.  Think of the person that you dislike the most.  If Gary Wright is correct, that means YOU are connected to that person on some sort of spiritual level.

Now, I practice a different faith from the one Gary practices but I agree with him on this.  It makes sense. If I truly believe what my Judeo-Christian beliefs have taught me, then we are “connected”.  We’re connected by the same needs and concerns. At our core, we’re all motivated by the same basic needs in life.

Don’t believe me?  Think about how, during times of calamity, people chip in and help each other out.  This was very evident during the recent floods in Nashville.  People helped others even while they were suffering from the same devastation; strangers helping strangers. Politics, economic status, nor a wide range of things that will often separate people no longer mattered.  People saw others in need and they helped.  Simple.

While all the definitions of “connected” are great, I think I like this idea of being spiritually connected to everybody.  It motivates me to disconnect myself from my prejudices (and we all have them) and make a concerted effort to see the real “them”.

I guess this is another way of saying that we need to look at others through God’s eyes.
