KÀ is the story of imperial twins on a dangerous journey designed
to fulfill their destiny in life. The twins lived an idyllic life – that is, until their kingdom
come under attack and separates them, sending them on their own adventurous journeys to reunite. What follows
is an incredible visual performance where acrobatics meets ballet meets martial arts.
If there wasn’t any of that going on to capture your attention, the sheer
infrastructure to support the performance is, in and of itself, engrossing. To say that it’s an engineering
marvel would be understating it. It’s nothing short of remarkable. The centerpiece of the show is
the massive hydraulic moving stage. It twists. It turns. It tilts up vertically –
all while the various actors are climbing and sliding all over it. Some even fall off but it’s all
part of the show.
The acrobatics,
aerobatics and pure raw skill that the performers display is mind-blowing. Some of the performances are
truly death-defying (if I may use an old phrase). I found myself with my mouth gaped open while watching
the performances. Many times, every sphincter muscle in my body was tense as I watched these incredibly
talented performers execute their roles perfectly if not frighteningly.
Equally
as frightening are the prices of the tickets. Reportedly the most expensive tickets for shows of this kind,
my particular seats (given to me, of course) ran somewhere in the neighborhood of $120+ a piece. Even with
that being the case, I believe that the show is well worth every penny that my hosts paid.
KÀ
is an incredible acrobatic performance that leaves an audience searching for appropriate words to describe it.
