I’ve lately found myself incredibly busy with interviews with some of the icons of my youth.  In the past few weeks, I’ve interviewed James Burton, Bonnie Bramlett, Mark Farner and more recently, Dave Mason.  The latter two have been because of a monster tour, Hippiefest 2011, that launches next month.  In addition to Farner and Mason, the tour will include Rick Derringer, Gary Wright and Felix Cavaliere.

I’ve had the privilege of attending one of these shows before and, I’ll tell you, they are an absolute blast!  The music will cause your mind to be flooded with memories that you thought were long forgotten . . . for one reason or another.  And, while you might think that the crowds are made up of aging hippies, you might only be partly right.  My experience has shown that the audiences are made up of people of all ages who appreciate real rock and roll.

However, what I really think is neat is how these legends get together – these respected musical giants – and just have fun jamming together and adding new experiences with each other to the ones experienced in the past.

Artists like these guys, while immortal in our minds and opinions of them, are human.  They live, eat and breathe just like we do.  They hunger, they love, they laugh and they cry.  And, like us, they’ve lost dear friends.  The difference between us and them is that they’re friends were internationally known just like they are and so the grief is a bit more public just like their joy has been and is.
