BuddyGuy001Photo by James R. PattersonAs our world continues to lose musical icons, it’s always a personal thrill to be able to catch one who is still alive, kicking, and putting on amazing shows.

Such was the case last night at the gorgeous Tennessee Theatre in downtown Knoxville with the performance by the one and only Buddy Guy.

Chicago blues personified, Mr. Guy has influenced many of the artists whom we all love and adore and are iconic guitarists themselves. Players such as Keith Richards, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, and many others. So, to be able to catch such a blues treasure live and in concert is truly a musical treat.

After a blazing performance by opening act, Quinn Sullivan (whom Buddy took under his wing while Quinn was still a young’n), Guy hit the stage to thunderous applause from a packed house.

The entire set list of around fifteen or so songs brought continuous applause and smiles.BuddyGuy002Photo by James R. Patterson Guy also spent a lot of time chatting with the audience and telling lots of stories.

Buddy hit the ground running with “Damn Right I’ve Got The Blues”, sliding into “I’m Your Hoochie Coochie Man” and “She’s Nineteen Years Old” – all leaving the enthused audience screaming for more – which he happily obliged with another twelve or so tunes. And as stated earlier, Guy chatted and, during one jam, he even played as he weaved his way through the crowd, driving them wild.

Our icons are leaving us in droves. Check the websites of the venues near you and support these people as they visit your town and play their hearts out for you.

  • Colin James Hits The Open Road

    Posted March 2022

Colin James 2If you have followed Boomerocity much at all, you already know that I absolutely love the blues. I'm not an expert on it, but I “knows what I’s likes.” And I can tell you that I really likes Colin James. He is a phenomenal blues artist and I've been following him for quite a while and have wanted to interview him for quite a while. The opportunity has finally presented itself as our schedules finally synched up to where we were able to have a chat.

The main purpose was to talk about his tour kicking off with the legendary Buddy Guy. Can you imagine touring with Buddy Guy? Colin has been friends with Buddy for many years, so we got together to talk about that, his latest album (Open Road – order it by clicking on the album cover to the right of the press release, below), some of the people he's known in the past - especially Stevie Ray Vaughan. All in all, just a great conversation that I'll know you'll enjoy listening in on.

After you’ve watched the interview, below, share it with your friends. Also, the press release for the tour is posted below it. Check it out to see if they’re performing near you. You can keep up with the latest with Colin by visiting his website, here, as well as on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
