Disco. Bee Gees. Angel Flight suits (especially white ones).

Those are the many memories that flood the mind whenever I hear music from the blockbuster film of the seventies, Saturday Night Fever. And it was those thoughts in mind that I caught the incredible performance of that iconic music by Black Jacket Symphony (one of my go-to favorite touring groups).

If you’re like me, it’s easy to get jaded hearing a group try to cover any sort of music. However, if you’ve followed Boomerocity for any time at all, you already know that I’m a raving fan of Black Jacket Symphony. They consistently cover great music to precise perfection and this performance was no exception.

Hearing BJS perform this soundtrack immediately took me back to the late seventies when I was still thin as a rake, driving my ’70 Buick Skylark, and cranking “Staying Alive” at a full “10” on my Sanyo stereo. I don’t say this with hyperbole or cheesy nostalgia. I say it with heart-felt thanks to BJS because they played this incredible music – not only to perfection – but they played it from the heart and appeared to have a heck of a lot of fun doing so.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: If you get a chance to catch any performance by Black Jacket Symphony, DO! Especially if they’re performing Saturday Night Fever.

Oh, and please don’t try wearing that old Angel Flight suit. Take it from someone who knows. Just sayin’.
