Photo by James R. PattersonAs our world continues to lose musical icons, it’s always a personal thrill to be able to catch one who is still alive, kicking, and putting on amazing shows.
Such was the case last night at the gorgeous Tennessee Theatre in downtown Knoxville with the performance by the one and only Buddy Guy.
Chicago blues personified, Mr. Guy has influenced many of the artists whom we all love and adore and are iconic guitarists themselves. Players such as Keith Richards, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, and many others. So, to be able to catch such a blues treasure live and in concert is truly a musical treat.
After a blazing performance by opening act, Quinn Sullivan (whom Buddy took under his wing while Quinn was still a young’n), Guy hit the stage to thunderous applause from a packed house.
The entire set list of around fifteen or so songs brought continuous applause and smiles.

Buddy hit the ground running with “Damn Right I’ve Got The Blues”, sliding into “I’m Your Hoochie Coochie Man” and “She’s Nineteen Years Old” – all leaving the enthused audience screaming for more – which he happily obliged with another twelve or so tunes. And as stated earlier, Guy chatted and, during one jam, he even played as he weaved his way through the crowd, driving them wild.
