The Charles Burton Blues Band
Reviewed: September 9, 2012
Favorites is the latest and appropriately titled CD by The Charles Burton Blues Band, featuring eleven of the band’s fans favorite tunes. Recorded at the end of a tour, the band (Burton on guitar, Asmus Jensen on drums and Arnold Ludvig on bass) decided to take advantage of the down time and those eleven favorites.
One never gets tired of listening to the great music and The Charles Burton Blues Band certainly knows how to serve up these favorites. Delivered with the energy, simplicity and authority that only a seasoned three piece blues band can, this CD is a must-have for the discriminating music connoisseur.
Since you – the obviously astute reader since you read Boomerocity – are already very familiar with all of the songs on Favorites, I’ll just let Mr. Burton himself share his thoughts about a few of them:
“Tell Me Why is a blues song that I heard from Duke Robillard. Iadded a sort of swing horn section line that I had been using in songs of this feel. We knew that many of the songs on this project would be pretty far-removed from blues as it’s usually perceived. This one is one of the more straight, Chicago style numbers”.
Turn On Your Lovelight: “I love this Bobby “Blue” Bland number. It’s got a gospel feel but with romantic lyrics. I usually throw in a few Allman Brothers references in my solo on this one”.
Finally, there’s If You Want Me To Stay. “This classic from Sly Stone has the coolest chord progression. It always gets the dance floor hoppin’.”
If you like some great songs covered by a great, three piece blues band, then Favorites by the Charles Burton Blues Band could be just the album you’re looking for.
