Jimi Hendrix.
The name conjures up many images of the late sixties and right on up through September 18, 1970, when he passed away at the tender age of 27. His passing made him the second member of the “27 Club”, joining Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones as one of the classic rockers who passed away at the age of 27.
Hendrix’s otherworldly guitar playing; his unique wordsmithing; his treatment while covering other people’s songs (i.e., completely changing the sound of Bob Dylan’s ‘Along the Watchtower’); his flamboyant clothes and stage presence; his soft, gentle demeanor; all of it made an indelible impression on all who listened to or observed him.
In the years since Jimi’s passing, his baby sister, Janie, has been managing his estate and legacy. She has done so in a classy way, serving up items that fans both new and old always eagerly await.
The audio on this page is of my recent phone conversation with Janie. We discussed her collaboration with Yoko Ono for the new Coda Collection on Amazon; the Jimi Hendrix Park; the new Jimi Hendrix Live In Maui offering; the two signature guitars offered by Gibson Guitar; as well some touching insights into the relationship between her and her big brother.
