If you’re a Janis Joplin fan, then Janis: Little Girl Blue is a must-have DVD for your personal viewing library.

Why?

It’s chock full of rare and not-so-rare archival footage of Janis that ranges from her childhood all the way through her last days. Also, there are great chats with various people tied to Janis including her sister, Laura, her brother, Michael, and members of Big Brother and the Holding Co. (some who have since passed away), just to name a few. Narrated by artist, Cat Power, the film traces Janis’ progress from her roots deep in South Texas from letters she had written to various people.

It’s a great and informative documentary well worth the investment. Pick one up for yourself and, while you’re at it, get a copy or two as gifts.
