Lost Songs – The Basement Tapes Continued DVD is an astounding documentary capturing the development of the November 2014 Harvest Records album, “Lost On The River: The New Basement Tapes.” Featuring T Bone Burnett, Elvis Costello, Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Marcus Mumford (Mumford and Sons), Rhiannon Giddens, and Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), the film shows these amazing musicians working on previously unknown Bob Dylan lyrics written during the legendary 1967, “The Basement Tapes” sessions. The DVD features not only unrivaled insight into these sessions, but an additional six bonus tracks.

The disc gives us a view into the discussions and reflections that these participants shared as they worked on the long lost Dylan tunes. The intimidation and humility oozing from these highly talented musicians is palpable.

Watching an album being made is a fascinating process to observe. It makes one appreciate what artists go through to bring music to our ears.  Add to that the fact that the music is long lost songs by Bob Dylan, the fascination goes up in orders of magnitude.

Dylan fans as well as music historians will definitely want their own copy of this documentary for their own enjoyment and research.
