I must admit. Most of my musical interest lie in the areas of classic rock, blues, R&B, country, and some pop. However, there are acts that came out during the 80’s and beyond that commanded my attention from time to time.

Once such band was Simple Minds. But, to my defense, the band did form in 1977 so baby boomers can still claim this Scottish band as their own. But, truthfully, like most of you, I wasn’t turned onto them until 1985 when the band’s first hit, “Don’t You (Forget About Me), hit radios across the fruited plain.

The band has a great re-issue of their CD/DVD live package out titled, “Simple Minds Acoustic In Concert” and it’s phenomenal. The fact that the band present their great catalog of music acoustically and live is a testament to their musicianship, the strength of their songwriting over the years, and the incredible fan base they enjoy. This offering is the first time that it has been made available in Blu-ray for the very first time.

Recorded live at London’s fabled Hackney Empire, the band serve up (acoustically) a sixteen song set that spans their career. As the press release articulated quite well, “. . . the electric elements of the music were peeled away, replaced and richly layered with acoustic guitars and instrumentation.”

If you wax nostalgic whenever you hear music from the 80’s; if you’re a Simple Minds fan and want to see how they sound and if they’re still . . . alive and kicking (Sorry. I couldn’t help myself) then “Simple Minds Acoustic In Concert” is a must-have for your listening and viewing library.

It’s definitely money well spent.
