Supertramp
Label: Mercury Studios
Release Date: February 28, 2025

As a teen listening to music on the radio in the 70’s, I remember clearly hearing this very unique music coming from my radio speaker. I couldn’t put my finger on it to describe its style but I knew I liked it.

The songs were “Dreamer” and “Bloody Well Right” and the band was Supertramp. Later, songs like “Give A Little Bit,” “The Logical Song,” “Goodbye Stranger,” and “Take the Long Way Home” always earned a turning up of the volume knob whenever they came on the radio.

Seeing their albums in the record stores was always a visual treat. Albums like “Breakfast In America” and “Crime of the Century” always grabbed my attention much like their music did.

By the last year of the golden decade of the seventies, the band was one of the hottest bands on the planet due in large part to the release of their “Breakfast In America” album and their extensive tour in support of it. That tour resulted in the release of their “Paris” live album. More about that album in a moment.

Today you can get the band’s complete set performed on the third of four sold-out nights at the 8,000 seat Pavillon de Paris as “Live In Paris ‘79”. You have the choice of either 3LP or a 2CD set.

Original fans will especially appreciate the fact that the “classic lineup” of the band (Rick Davies, Roger Hodgson, Hohn Helliwell, Dougie Thomson, and Bob Siebengerg are all on this historic recording.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking this is just a repackaging of Supertramp’s “Paris” live album that came out in 1980. That set only had a series of selections from the earlier shows from that stop. This offering is comprised of the entire show from that third night.

All the hits like “Bloody Well Right,” “The Logical Song,” “Breakfast In America,” “Goodbye Stranger,” “Asylum,” “Even In The Quietest Moments,” “Give A Little Bit,” “Dreamer,” “Rudy,” “Take The Long Way Home,” “Fool’s Overture” are on this amazing package. The exhuberation of the French crowd is captured quite clearly on both the vinyl and the CD versions of the package so turn it up!

Whether you are a Supertramp fan or just appreciate that phenomenal music that was created in the golden era of the seventies, this offering is a must-have for your musica library.
