Joe Bonamassa Live at the Sydney Opera House
Label: J&R Adventures
Review Date: November 4, 2019
As Boomerocity always says: Love it/buy it.
That’s what we’ve always said about anything that’s been released by Joe Bonamassa since the launch of Boomerocity.com almost eleven years ago and it’s still the case.
We’ve covered countless CDs, DVDs, and concerts (we can’t wait for his book!). What we find especially cool about “Sydney” is that JB offers up a live album that doesn’t have a lot of his standard live tunes. Don’t get me wrong: I love all the JB standards that he performs at his shows. However, Live at the Sydney Opera House is very likely the benchmark of a new wave of Bonamassa concert standards.
“Sydney” features recordings from his 2016 performances at one of the world’s most legendary venues and provides Bonamassa fans 73 minutes of flawless musical bliss beautifully bundled in nine songs. We’re also delighted to see Joe’s top-shelf band members re-joining him. Of course, we’re talking about Anton Fig on the skins; Michael Rhodes (from Boomerocity’s home of Nashville) on bass; former member of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble (and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee) keyboardist, the amazing Reese Wynans; Paulie Cerra " allowtransparency="no" width="120" height="240">on sax; Lee Thornburg on trumpet; and, on vocals, Gary Pinto, Juanita Tippins, and the amazing Mahalia Barnes.
If you’re not already a Joe Bonamassa fan, Live at the Sydney Opera House will make you one. If you are already a fan, then you’re going to love this latest live offering. It will be a welcome addition to your listening library as well as a great gift for the music enthusiasts on your Christmas gift list.
