The Australian Pink Floyd Show

Show Date: October 4, 2012
Venue: Verizon Theater
Grand Prairie, Texas

Ladies and gentlemen, I can honestly and truthfully say that on Thursday, October 4th, 2012, I saw one of the best shows I’ve ever seen in my life. I don’t say that lightly as I’ve had the privilege of being able to attend a lot of great shows. I’m referring to the performance this past Thursday night of The Australian Pink Floyd Show at the Verizon Theater.

Wow!

From the explosive opening of In The Flesh? and then working through such Floyd greats as Take It Back, Sorrow, Pigs (Three Different Ones), among many, many others, “Aussie Floyd” had the enthusiastic crowd totally and completely enthralled.

Cases in point: During Another Brick In The Wall Part 2, Wish You Were Here, and Comfortably Numb, the crowd song along word-for-word, cheering the band along. Also, after the vocal solos by Lorelei McBroom, Lara Smiles and Emily Lynn during The Great Gig in the Sky, the crowd roared their enthusiastic approval.

The band was incredibly tight, delivering the two-plus hours of Pink Floyd hits – including the rarely performed Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun – to absolute perfection. Colin Wilson was outstanding on bass. The pitch-perfect keyboard work by Jason Sawford (see the Boomerocity interview with him here) was breath-taking. The guitar work by Steve Mac and Dave Domminney Fowler was absolutely incredible. The sax work by Mike Kidson was amazing and the percussion work by Paul Bonney was unbeatable. The vocal work by Alex McNamara was jaw-dropping in its delivery.

The light show and special effects, including the inflatable stars of the show, the “teacher” and Skippy the Kangaroo, were, well, there aren’t enough superlatives to describe that part of the production. I’ll just say that the light show was equally as superb as the musicianship and vocals.

As it’s increasingly harder to be able to catch Mr. Gilmore and Mr. Waters together again for a Pink Floyd tour, you would be doing yourself a very big favor catching The Australian Pink Floyd Show. It will blow you away!
