From If You’re Reading This by Tim McGraw

It’s very hard to enjoy a three day weekend when I think of the ultimate sacrifice that the men and women of our country’s armed forces have given for our freedom all throughout our history.

Their tremendous sacrifice was joined by the sacrifices of their families, as well. Families have been horribly disrupted by the ravages of war. Wives have lived decades wondering if their missing-in-action husbands are still alive, never being able to move on with their own lives. Wives without husbands. Husbands without wives. Children without parents. Parents burying their children at far too young of an age.

I know that war is sometimes an ugly necessity. Far be it from me to say that I’m qualified to judge which ones are and are not. I’m just not that smart. However, that doesn’t mean that I must like the ones that are justified nor that I should hate any less the ones that aren’t. I just know that my heart aches for the families of those men and women who miss their moms and dads and that I will be forever in deepest gratitude for their sacrifice and for the sacrifice made by their families.

In the mean time, I pray that war once again becomes just a game we played when we were kids. One can hope for that, can’t they?
