Waiting For The World To End is the latest offering by L.A.-based guitarists/singer/songwriter, Dave Widow, and his band, The Line Up. The album is a collection of fourteen tunes that were inspired by his love of the blues. This love led to his relationships with such great R&B and blues artists such as Boomerocity friend, Bonnie Bramlett, the late Roger “Jellyroll” Troy, Bill Champlain and Lonnie Mack.
Backing Widow in the studio is a stellar cast of great musical characters. They include drummers James Gadson (worked with Paul McCartney, B.B. King and Marvin Gaye, among others) and Gary Mallaber (worked on Two Tickets to Paradise, Fly Like An Eagle and Moondance); Gerald Johnson (Dave Mason, CSN, and Steve Miller) and Reggie McBride (B.B. King, Keb’ Mo’ and Elton John) on bass; David Morgan (Ricky Nelson, The Nelsons, The Stone Canyon Band) and Mike Finnigan on keys; and Paulie Cerra and Paul Lidderal on horns.
The end result is a great, fun album to listen to over and over again.
Three of the randomly picked Boomerocity favorites on this top-shelf project are:
The Clapton-esque, Long Gone. I’m not going to be at all surprised to see video of Mr. Widow performing this great tune with Mr. Slowhand himself sometime in the near and foreseeable future.
Reach Out is one of those uplifting, gospel-sounding blues tunes. This song will leave chills all over you. I guarantee you that, if you listen to this song while you’re down, you won’t stay down for long. This song is worth the price of the whole CD just by itself.
Finally, Wait On Love warranted multiple slaps of the repeat button. The Ray Charles vibe that exudes from this tune made me immediately fall in love with it at the first sound of the tickling of the ivories.
If you love blues; if you love R&B; if you love great, original music, then Waiting For The World To End by Dave Widow and The Line Up is a must have CD for you.
