The Rolling Stones Live At The Wiltern
The Rolling Stones
Studio: Mercury Studios
Release Date: March 8, 2024
It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of the Rolling Stones. I was first made aware of them at the tender age of 9 ½ years old as my teenaged cousins mourned the untimely death of Stones co-founder, Brian Jones.
Since those days decades ago, I’ve bought their album, collected their concert DVDs, attended three concerts, and have had the privilege of interviewing four of the backup people in the band (Chuck Leavell (3 times), Bernard Fowler (3 times), the late Bobby Keys, and the lovely Lisa Fischer. All of those interviews are available on Boomerocity.com in the Interviews section.
Though all the projects by the Stones haven’t always been covered here, I’m always stoked when the Stones come out with something new. The new release, “The Rolling Stones Live At The Wiltern,” is certainly no exception. The press release for the offering says it well:
“One of the greatest box-office successes of 2002 – 2003, 117 shows grossing over $300 million, The Rolling Stones’ ‘Licks World Tour’ – in support of their 40 Licks compilation – celebrated the band’s 40th anniversary in splendid fashion, highlighted by this intimate Nov. 22 Los Angeles show at The Wiltern.”
Late bandmates Charlie Watts and Bobby Keys were still with the band at this performance as were former bandmates Lisa Fischer and Blondie Chaplin.
Offered in CD, vinyl, and DVD, the package serves up a treasure trove of twenty of the Stones’ iconic tunes (see track listings below). Is this performance different from any of the other live recordings? Yes and no. But all songs are done in ways that we always expect from The Rolling Stones. It’s why we love the Stones and why we keep showing up at their concerts and buying their stuff.
“The Rolling Stones Live At The Wiltern” is available wherever great rock and roll is sold and can be immediately accessed by clicking on the album cover shown on this page. Boomerocity has it in our listening library and encourage you to add it to yours.
