When someone asks Boomerocity the rhetorical question, “The Beatles or The Stones,” I unabashedly say, “Yes”.

If you’ve followed Boomerocity for a year or more, you already know that we do love the Stones. We’ve seen them in concert four times and have interviewed Lisa Fischer (once), Bernard Fowler (three times), Chuck Leavell (three times), and the late Bobby Keys (Once. Twice if you count the second chat to get a quote from him about Bernard (“Bee-Nard”) for my first interview with him.

So, whenever a new Stones project hits, we’re always excited to share the news here. Such is the case with their new CD/DVD set, “The Rolling Stones – Welcome To Shepherd’s Bush.”

Recorded June 8, 1999, at London’s Shepherd’s Bush in front of ““1,800 lucky dogs” in the “secret gig” (quoting Paul Sexton in the liner notes that accompany the release), the band delivered as they always do: a fantastic show that brings back memories to the baby boomers in the crowd and educated the youngers there who love our music. The “intimate” show took place a few days before the band’s two sold out shows (70,000 seats each) at the legendary Wembley Stadium.

The shows proceeded “No Security” - the band’s 1998 live album. Quoting the package’s press release, “The star-studded audience at the gig marking The Rolling Stones’ homecoming included everyone from Anita Pallenberg to Aerosmith, Jerry Hall to Jon Bon Jovi, along with Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Bob Geldof, Pete Townshend and Lenny Kravitz.”
That guest list makes this particular live offering especially unique to Stones fans and, thus, makes this a must-have addition to a Stones fan’s personal listening/viewing library. For the uninitiated, it’s a great introduction to the Rolling Stones and a great example of how revered they are as a legendary rock and roll band.
